The countdown to Christmas is running, there is less than a day left. Do you get all your christmas presents? Fortunately I do. But if you call yourself a food blogger (even if you are “only” a casual blogger), you are expected to give little gifts from the kitchen. Sadly, i was very busy during the last few weeks. And although I have been this week off, there have been so many things to be done like clean up our flat, do the laundry, buy groceries and so on (simply everything that came off badly recently and need to be done before holidays can start), that i have had no time to stay in my kitchen to cook jam or bake some more cookies (all the cookies, i have baked before are allready gone…). But lucky me, i have a last-minute recipe for German cinnamon roasted almonds (you can also use any other nuts), which are made in under 10 minutes.
“Santa Claus is coming to town…”. Only a few days remain until Christmas Eve, so i think it is okay to have this song stuck on my head. Ever since I can remember, christmas time was always my favourite time of the year. I know this sounds like a phrase somehow, but I really love how everything around me turns calm and the christmas lighting of almost every window lights up the city. The only missing thing for a perfect christmas season is snow. Unfortunatly I am living in a city, where it rarely snows. Ironically, we have a really high rainfall, but we hardly ever get snow. In fact, it is just to warm for snow at the moment, that we can only hope and dream of white christmas here in North Gemany.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Okay, this is nothing new for most of you. But seriously, I will never have a problem to eat one apple a day at least. Fortunately you can buy apples all the year, but in autumn you get the best ones here in Germany. I think, this is one reason, why I love autumn so much. Another reason is the changing of colours, leaves turn red and yellow and the light becomes so warm and cozy. I wish I could enjoy that beautiful side of autumn from september until november. Unfortunatly I live in a city with a really high level rainfall (even in summer!) and everything is just grey in grey at the moment.
In Germany, you say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But to tell the truth, I am not really a “breakfast girl”. Well, it’s because i am more the “just-5-minutes-more-in-bed” girl and i cannot eat when i am just got up. Thus my first breakfast constists of one coffee during the week. I know that is not the healthiest way. But i think, like everything in life, it is a matter of balancing. So whenever it is going to be a very hectic morning without time for caring of myself i try to compensate, wether it be with a little walk outside after work, a salad for lunch or a healthy late breakfast.
