A few months ago I had a very stressful time. And whenever I am in such a phase I get issues with my stomach. And usally everything is going to be fine as soon as things start to work out better. I don’t know if it’s because I am getting older or the stress level is higher, but my issues with my stomach still persited. I can tell you, for someone like me who really love to eat, it’s almost the worst case. So I changed some eating habits, for example eating less white wheat flour and refined sugar and I quit with coffee, which encourges the production of stomach acid. But like it could be read in Instagram account for a long time, I was totally coffee addicted and I needed my daily dose caffeine (had the worst headache ever without one). So I have switched to Matcha green tea, which was really good for my stomach, my head and particulary my mood.
The first time I heard about that salt and sweet combo in desserts or sweets was in the 90’s sitcom “Friends” when Ross offers Phoebe a salt water taffy. Her reaction was “What the mother of crab is up with this stuff??? Oh god, is it a gum, food? What is the deal??? Oh, that’s nice… May I try the pink one?” And I was just thinking “Salt water what??? Taffy? Salty candies??? Ehhh!”. But on the other side, I was fascinated and it made me that curious that this scene stuck in my head over years. I mean I am talking about a sitcom from the 90’s and I still remember that scene! But unfortunately I never had the possibilty to try of that salt water taffy here in Germany.
The countdown to Christmas is running, there is less than a day left. Do you get all your christmas presents? Fortunately I do. But if you call yourself a food blogger (even if you are “only” a casual blogger), you are expected to give little gifts from the kitchen. Sadly, i was very busy during the last few weeks. And although I have been this week off, there have been so many things to be done like clean up our flat, do the laundry, buy groceries and so on (simply everything that came off badly recently and need to be done before holidays can start), that i have had no time to stay in my kitchen to cook jam or bake some more cookies (all the cookies, i have baked before are allready gone…). But lucky me, i have a last-minute recipe for German cinnamon roasted almonds (you can also use any other nuts), which are made in under 10 minutes.
If someone would ask me about the concept of this blog I could not find an exact answer, because i have not a real concept yet. Well, it is right that everything on this blog indicates it is going to be a food blog. But honestly i do not want to be comitted. It should be more a “everything that makes me happy”-blog. And standing in the kitchen (not all day of course ;-)) for cooking and baking is one of those things that makes me happy. I love to cut vegetables after work or whisk ingredients for cake on my weekend and leave all negativ thoughts behind me. It’s just relaxing for me…
